Violin sheet music: Viotti’s serenades for two solo violins are among the finest works composed for that formation, along with Leclair’s sonatas for two violins. The writing is extremely meticulous and idiomatic for the instrument, the elegance of the serenades counterbalances their refined sensitivity.

They are not only concert works but also remarkable exercises for conservatory students.

The publication of the serenades restores Viotti to the position he deserves: a remarkable composer, founder of the French XIXth century school. Certain great names of music, such as Brahms, could not understand why these works were so little played.

The introduction by Béatrice Ernwein concerns period use of vibrato, a useful subject for all violinists.
